Russia Opens Bids for High-Speed Sochi–Sukhumi Ferry Route
The Russian government has launched a tender for high-speed passenger ferry services on the Sochi–Sukhumi route. Funding of 80.8 million rubles from the federal budget will support the initiative, with bids opening on January 27. Only companies using Russian-built or leased vessels qualify for participation.
Applications for the maritime passenger service tender opened officially on January 27. The deadline for submissions is set for February 6, with all bids processed through the Portal for Financial State Support Measures.
By February 2026, three Russian firms had registered interest in the project. Black Sea Cruise Company, Mosturflot, and Vodoemtrans are now competing for the contract. Eligibility is restricted to operators using vessels constructed in Russia after 2018 or those leasing compliant ships.
The allocated budget of 80.8 million rubles will fund the selected service. The route connects Sochi with Sukhumi, aiming to improve passenger transport between the two cities.
The tender process will conclude after the February 6 deadline. The winning company will operate high-speed ferry services under the new funding scheme. Only Russian-built or leased vessels meeting the criteria will be permitted on the route.
