Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Region overhauls key highway for safer commutes
A major upgrade of the Bogorodsk–Klyuchishchi highway is now in progress in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Region. The project aims to improve travel safety for locals heading to work, schools, and medical centres. Funded with 486 million rubles, it targets long-standing issues like cracks, rutting, and road subsidence.
The work covers a full overhaul of the existing route. Contractors will strip away old asphalt, lay fresh pavement, reinforce road shoulders, and repair drainage culverts. New markings and upgraded access ramps are also part of the plan.
Beyond the main highway, the district will renovate links to the villages of Demidovo and Inyutino. A 9-kilometre stretch between Inyutino and Kasanikha will receive similar improvements. To keep traffic moving during construction, reversible lanes will be introduced. This project falls under the national *Infrastructure for Life* initiative, launched by the Russian president. The scheme includes 12 federal programmes and has already refurbished 47 road sections and 12 villages in the region over the past three years. Completion is set for September 2026.
Once finished, the upgraded roads will provide smoother and safer journeys for daily commuters. The improvements will also enhance connections between rural settlements and key services. The district's investment aligns with broader efforts to modernise regional transport networks.
