In the city of Goryachy Klyuch, Krasnodar Region, Russia's environmental watchdog Rosprirodnadzor uncovered violations involving local residents' waste disposal. The agency's press service reported the findings.
Inspectors discovered a large volume of construction debris along the banks of the Psekups River. During an examination of the waterway and shoreline, specialists collected samples. The contaminated area exceeded 400 square meters.
The damage to the river was estimated at 18.8 million rubles (approx. $210,000). The organization "TsRES" failed to comply with a voluntary compensation order. Rosprirodnadzor then filed a lawsuit, and the court ruled that the company must fully cover the environmental harm caused.
This follows a separate incident on February 22, 2024, when an oil spill occurred in the Port of Novorossiysk from the Panama-flagged vessel Haijinjiang. Rosprirodnadzor pursued legal action to recover 450 million rubles (approx. $5 million) in damages to the Black Sea. In November, it was confirmed that the foreign ship's owner had paid the full compensation for the Novorossiysk oil spill.
