Russian Railways boosts summer travel with new routes and double-decker trains
Russian Railways (RZD) is expanding train services ahead of the summer holiday season. New routes, additional carriages, and double-decker trains will start operating from April, with schedules adjusted for peak travel times. The changes aim to meet higher demand for trips to popular destinations. From April, extra services will launch from multiple cities, including a Moscow route running on even-numbered days. St. Petersburg trains will follow a revised timetable, operating every other day from May 16. Adler services will adopt the same pattern starting May 21.
Additional routes have been added from Ufa and Tynda. The Black Sea coast and the Caucasian Mineral Waters region will see the highest demand, with 42 pairs of trains connecting Anapa to other regions—36 of them seasonal. In total, 164 pairs of trains will cover these routes, completing over 30,000 trips during the summer.
To handle the influx, RZD will introduce extra trains and expand carriages on busy routes. New double-decker trains will also enter service, increasing capacity for holidaymakers. The expanded services will run throughout the summer, catering to travellers heading to coastal and resort areas. With more frequent departures and additional seating, RZD expects smoother journeys during the peak vacation period. The changes take effect from April, with adjustments continuing into late May.
