San Lázaro Oriente Metrobús station gets a major facelift for airport route

San Lázaro Oriente station on Metrobús Line 4 is undergoing major upgrades. Work began about a month ago, with crews actively reshaping parts of the busy transport hub. The changes aim to improve the route toward Mexico City International Airport along Quetzalcóatl Avenue. Construction activity has transformed the area around the station. Wooden and temporary metal barriers now block off the outer lanes, restricting vehicle access. Inside the work zone, piles of cement, soil, paint cans, and scaffolding sit alongside tools and other supplies. Workers have been moving materials and assembling metal structures since the project started.

Local street vendors confirm the work has been ongoing for roughly four weeks. Machinery and crews remain on-site throughout the day, altering the station’s layout. Some of the existing signage shows clear signs of wear and damage as the remodeling progresses. New signs and banners explain the upgrades in progress. Traffic warnings urge drivers to slow to 10 kilometres per hour when passing through the area. The improvements focus on the Quetzalcóatl corridor, a key link to the airport.

The station’s expansion is now visibly underway, with barriers, materials, and machinery in place. Commuters and drivers will need to adjust to the temporary restrictions and reduced speed limits. The upgrades are expected to enhance access along one of the city’s busiest transport routes.
