Sarawak Premier's UK-Ireland Tour Targets Tech and Talent Growth

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has begun an official working visit to three key UK and Irish cities. From May 2 to May 5, he will travel to Manchester, Bristol, and Dublin. The trip focuses on boosting technology, infrastructure, and talent development in Sarawak. The visit starts in Manchester, where Abang Johari will take part in the Sarawak Agenda-Townhall programme. He will also attend a dinner with Sarawakians living in the city and meet with representatives from the Manchester Regional Government.

In Bristol, the Premier will tour the National Composites Centre. Another key event includes an engagement session between SMD Semiconductor and the University of Bristol. During this session, he will deliver a speech and witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding involving SMD Semiconductor. The final stop is Dublin, where Abang Johari will visit the K2 Data Centre. The entire trip aims to enhance Sarawak’s capabilities in data centres, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and skilled workforce growth.

The four-day visit covers meetings, speeches, and site tours across three cities. Each location plays a role in advancing Sarawak’s technological and economic goals. The outcomes are expected to support long-term development in key industries.
