Saxon Inland Ports Draw Positive Balance for 2025 - Saxon Inland Ports grows 4.27% in 2025 despite rail and cargo challenges

Saxon Inland Ports (SBO) has reported steady growth despite ongoing challenges. Cargo handling rose by 4.27% in 2025, reaching 2.14 million tons. The company is now focusing on expansion plans, particularly at the Riesa port, with operations set to begin in 2028.

The year 2025 brought mixed results for SBO. While overall cargo handling climbed, its Czech subsidiary, CSP, faced a 9% drop in volumes. Track closures and bridge clearance issues contributed to the decline.

Rail freight, however, performed well, increasing by 1.9%. The Torgau site saw the most significant growth, with train-based cargo handling doubling. These gains helped offset some of the losses elsewhere.

Looking ahead, SBO is prioritising stability. After reducing eight positions in 2025 through natural turnover, the company aims to protect jobs in 2026. The main focus remains the Riesa port expansion, a €30 million project. Public funding is expected to cover 78% of the costs, with preparations already in motion for a 2028 launch.

The Riesa expansion will shape SBO's future, with most funding secured through public sources. Meanwhile, the company continues to balance job security with operational growth. Train improvements and cargo increases provide a solid foundation for the years ahead.
