Semaphore Street sewer repairs on track for May 31 completion
Repairs on Semaphore Street’s sewer system are progressing steadily. Kraskom has set a deadline of May 31 to finish the work, ensuring minimal disruption to local services. Temporary measures are in place to keep water and sewage flowing while the old network is upgraded. Crews have already installed four bypass lines, stretching nearly one kilometre in total. These temporary pipes maintain essential services while the damaged sections are replaced. Stationary pumps have also been positioned in upstream manholes to redirect wastewater and prevent blockages.
The old sewer network suffered partial collapse, so workers are now clearing debris and preparing trenches for a new foundation. A technical chamber is being assembled to connect the incoming fibre-glass pipes, which have all been delivered to the site. Kraskom will replace roughly 140 metres of sewer lines along Semaphore Street. To support the system during repairs, four mini-pumping stations will stay operational until the project is complete.
The upgrades will restore full functionality to the sewer system by the end of May. Temporary pumps and bypass lines ensure residents and businesses face no interruptions. Once finished, the new infrastructure will improve long-term reliability for the area.
