Semey's Nurly route debuts sleek, modern train carriages for 2023 travel
The updated fleet includes three compartment cars, five open-plan sleeper cars, and one staff car, with a total capacity of over 350 passengers. Previously, the route operated with carriages manufactured in 1993.
Designed to meet modern global standards for aesthetics, safety, reliability, and comfort, the new cars feature ergonomic sleeping berths, individual LED reading lights, USB ports, and power outlets. Accessible compartments, wheelchair spaces, and attendant call buttons are provided for passengers with reduced mobility. The carriages have a service life of up to 40 years.
The train operates every other day, departing Nurly Station at 5:55 p.m. and Semey Station at 4:45 p.m.
Over the past two years, Passenger Transport JSC has acquired 219 RWS Wagon (ZIKSTO) carriages. New cars now serve routes including Aktobe–Atyrau, Pavlodar–Turkestan, Pavlodar–Almaty, Kyzylorda–Semey, Almaty–Saratov, Almaty–Ust-Kamenogorsk, Astana–Kokshetau, Astana–Borovoye Resort, and Karagandy–Astana.
By 2030, the fleet modernization program aims to replace 100% of the rolling stock.
Background: All RWS Wagon carriages (ZIKSTO LLP) belong to the new 45th series, equipped with advanced systems to ensure passenger comfort and safety. The modern designs cater to all traveler categories—including those with limited mobility, families with children, seniors, and international tourists.
Smooth-ride bogies minimize vibration, while barrier-free entry allows wheelchair users to board independently. Each staff car includes specialized compartments with expanded space and accessible restrooms for passengers with disabilities.
For families traveling with children, changing tables are installed in restrooms without showers.
Onboard Wi-Fi and USB charging ports at every seat keep passengers connected and powered up for work, study, or leisure. Ergonomic handrails by each berth, LED lighting in vestibules, and individual climate control in compartments enhance travel comfort. Secure personal safes are also provided for valuables.
Interior surfaces use hypoallergenic, eco-friendly materials, and air disinfection systems reduce infection risks. The carriages are built to withstand extreme temperatures, with vacuum toilets functional even during prolonged stops.
Multilingual digital displays provide announcements in Kazakh, Russian, and English.
