SEPTA borrows MARC trains to fill gaps in troubled fleet service

SEPTA has started utilizing ten trains borrowed from Maryland's MARC system to bridge service gaps. The move comes in response to persistent issues with its own Silverliner IV fleet. These leased trains arrived in early December and are now operating on two key routes.

The MARC trains began serving the Trenton and West Trenton lines. They run during midday hours, making them easily noticeable to passengers. SEPTA crews have been trained to operate the new equipment.

The lease was facilitated by a $220 million funding agreement. This temporary measure aids in covering shortages while SEPTA works towards a lasting solution. Plans include adding 89 more trains in the future to completely replace the troubled Silverliner IV cars.

The borrowed MARC trains are now integrated into SEPTA's daily schedule. They provide instant relief while the agency prepares for a larger fleet expansion. The $220 million deal ensures continued service for commuters on affected lines.
