Shift4 and Lydian team up to bring crypto payments to mainstream merchants
Shift4 has expanded its crypto payment service by partnering with Lydian. The move allows merchants to accept digital currencies, including Tether (USDT), with instant conversion to local fiat. This comes as stablecoin transactions now outpace even Visa’s settlement volumes worldwide. The collaboration between Shift4 and Lydian builds on the existing 'Pay with Crypto' feature, already active across thousands of US merchants. Customers can now pay using any major crypto wallet, much like a traditional credit card. Merchants, however, receive funds directly in their local currency, avoiding volatility risks.
Lydian’s technology speeds up transactions while cutting costs. It also ensures near-instant settlement in fiat, making crypto payments more practical for everyday use. The partnership arrives as over 600 million global crypto users push for wider digital currency adoption.
Regulatory clarity from frameworks like the GENIUS Act and MiCA has further smoothed the path for stablecoins in payment systems. Tether, the largest stablecoin by market cap, is now fully supported on Shift4’s platform. This positions the company as a leader in mainstream crypto transactions. The integration of Lydian’s solution strengthens Shift4’s ability to process crypto payments efficiently. Merchants gain access to a broader customer base while avoiding price fluctuations. With stablecoin volumes already surpassing traditional payment networks, the shift towards digital currency adoption appears set to accelerate.
