Sinara Transport Machines accelerates with new high-speed rail contracts and upgrades

Sinara Transport Machines (STM) aims to increase revenue 3.5-fold to 400 billion rubles ($4.4 billion) over five years (from 119 billion rubles in 2025). The company's flagship project under its new strategy is the development of high-speed trains. Manufacturing rolling stock is expected to generate 107 billion rubles in revenue, with an additional 14 billion rubles coming from maintenance services for high-speed rail (HSR) trains.

As part of the high-speed rail project, STM has signed a contract with Russian Railways (RZD) to supply two prototype trains and an agreement with State Transport Leasing Company (GTLC) for 41 trains. The company anticipates further orders for 260 trains to serve future high-speed routes. According to Vitaly Votolev, Vice President of the Sinara Group and Executive Director of STM, prototypes have been developed for 70% of the HSR train's components, while 20% have successfully completed testing: "At our plant, the hulls of the first four cars have already been welded—two have been sent for painting. We have manufactured and tested a non-powered bogie, final tests are underway for the powered bogie, and we have produced axles for the wheelsets."

STM also noted continued growth in passenger rail services. The company currently produces Finist high-speed electric multiple units (EMUs) in five-car and eight-car configurations. In July 2023, the first dual-system Finist—capable of operating on both AC and DC electrified sections—was delivered to the Sverdlovsk Railway. By the end of 2026, STM plans to unveil a premium version of the Finist, featuring enhanced passenger seating and an upgraded interior. Additionally, the company is developing a battery-powered Finist with autonomous operation capabilities. A prototype is scheduled for completion in 2027, with certification and commercial sales to begin in 2028.

In 2027, STM will launch serial production of the 2ES11 Orets AC electric locomotive and manufacture the first prototype of the dual-system 2ES12 Amethyst locomotive. By year-end, the company will also begin certification for the 2TE35A mainline diesel locomotive, equipped with its own in-house engine.
