Spotify's new tool lets artists block fake or mistaken tracks on their profiles
Spotify is rolling out a new tool to help artists protect their identities on the platform. The feature, called Artist Profile Protection, aims to stop incorrect or unwanted music from appearing under their names. It comes as the company makes artist security a key focus for 2026. The tool is currently in beta and available through the Spotify for Artists dashboard. It lets musicians review and approve any releases before they show up on their profiles. Only tracks they greenlight will appear on their page and count toward their streaming numbers.
Artists will also get email alerts whenever new music is submitted under their name. This gives them a chance to spot and block incorrect or unauthorised uploads early. Spotify admits that open distribution has sometimes led to mistakes, with the wrong tracks linked to the wrong artists. The move follows growing concerns over AI-generated music ending up on the wrong profiles. The feature is especially useful for artists who share names with others or frequently deal with incorrect releases. However, Spotify has not revealed how many musicians are taking part in the beta test.
The new system puts more control in the hands of artists. They can now block unauthorised or mistakenly linked tracks before they go live. Spotify plans to expand the feature as part of its wider push to improve artist protection by 2026.
