St. Louis program helps 14,000+ seniors explore by public transit
A programme helping older adults explore St. Louis by public transport has now supported over 14,000 participants. Ten Toes + Transit offers guided walks and transit trips to encourage mobility and activity. The initiative runs in partnership with AARP St. Louis and the St. Clair County Transit District.
The scheme operates through 38 sessions, with nearly 1,800 guided walks led by more than 300 trained volunteers. Each week, participants meet a walk leader and travel together by MetroLink or MetroBus to local attractions. Alongside regular outings, the programme includes special tours and Saturday 'Coffee Club' walks.
The next session begins on 2 April 2026 and runs until 30 June. Registration costs £15 for the full period. Those interested can sign up online at cmt-stl.org/ten-toes-transit or by calling 314-231-7272. Ten Toes + Transit aims to build confidence in using public transport while keeping older residents active. By combining walking with bus and rail trips, it helps them discover new parts of the metro area.
Since its launch, the programme has engaged thousands of older adults in exploring St. Louis. With affordable sessions and volunteer-led outings, it continues to promote independence and community connection. Registration for the spring 2026 session is now open.
