Last Starcar Branches in Hamburg to Close - Starcar's collapse leaves 170 jobless as Germany's rental giant shuts forever
Starcar, once a prominent car rental business in Germany, will permanently close its doors. The insolvency administrator confirmed on 23 January 2023 that no buyers or investors had come forward to save the company. All remaining branches will now shut within weeks, ending operations entirely by the end of February.
The company first filed for insolvency in October 2022. By December of that year, it had already stopped most of its regular services. At its peak, Starcar operated 615 branches across Germany, but financial troubles forced a rapid decline.
At the time of the administrator's announcement, around 170 employees were still working for the group. The final locations—City-South, Langenhorn, and Altona in Hamburg—will close by 28 February. No further extensions or rescue deals were possible, leaving liquidation as the only remaining option.
The closure marks the end of Starcar's presence in the German market. All remaining staff will lose their jobs as the last branches shut. The company's assets will now be sold off as part of the liquidation process.
