State of México extends tax relief for public transport operators until 2026

Tlalnepantla, State of México – The government of the State of México has extended the deadline to December 18, 2026, for public transport concessionaires and permit holders to access full subsidies covering vehicle ownership tax (tenencia) and annual registration renewal fees.

The measure was published in the official gazette Gaceta del Gobierno on April 21.

Under the agreement, a 100% subsidy will apply to 2024 annual registration renewals and prior years, provided that vehicle owners settle their tax obligations for 2025 and 2026.

Mobility Secretary Juan Hugo de la Rosa clarified that the subsidy covers "100% of the 2024 annual registration renewal and prior years, but only if owners have paid their taxes for 2025 and 2026."

2026 Vehicle Ownership Tax Subsidy

The agreement also includes a full subsidy for the 2026 vehicle ownership tax (tenencia), provided there are no outstanding debts and the current year's registration renewal is up to date.

Additionally, 100% of late fees and updates accrued after April 7, 2026, for unpaid vehicle ownership tax or annual registration renewals will be waived.

The resolution states that subsidy applications and fee payments must be completed by December 18, 2026 at the latest.

This measure builds on a previous agreement published on December 19, 2025, which established tax incentives for public transportation operators.
