State Road 2119 in Thal to close for major renovations in late March

Major roadworks on State Road 2119 in Thal will disrupt traffic from late March. The project, set to run from 24 March to 8 May 2026, focuses on renovating the 'Aue' section between 'Am Park' and 'Schreiberbrunnen'. Drivers should prepare for delays and changed routes during this period.

The construction zone will operate under single-lane traffic, controlled by temporary lights. Only vehicles weighing up to 7.5 metric tons and local buses may enter the affected area. Heavier vehicles, those exceeding 7.5 tons, must follow a designated detour via Brotterode, Bad Tabarz, Federal Highway 88, and Schwarzhausen.

This detour will remain in place for the entire duration of the works, extending until **30 June 2026**—longer than the initial roadworks period. Authorities have advised hauliers and logistics companies to plan alternative routes well in advance to avoid congestion.

The project will bring temporary inconvenience but aims to improve road conditions in the long term. Drivers of large vehicles face the longest diversions, while lighter traffic and public transport will experience controlled access. Delays are expected, particularly during peak hours, until the work is completed in early May.
