Sulzburg and Laufen launch urgent stormwater drainage repairs by summer
Sulzburg and Laufen are set to begin major repairs on their stormwater drainage systems. A quarter of inspection shafts and piping sections need urgent work due to infrastructure damage. The city council will vote on the contract award this Thursday, 26 March 2026.
The renovation follows a detailed master plan assessing roads, water pipes, and drainage across Sulzburg, Laufen, and St. Ilgen. Faulty stormwater drains in Sulzburg and Laufen will be the first priority. Work is scheduled to start immediately and finish by summer.
Trenchless technology will be the main method, using cured-in-place pipe lining (CIPP). This approach avoids extensive digging and reduces disruption. The lowest bid for the project came in at around €168,800 gross from a Kempten-based company. Funding for the repairs is already secured in the 2026 budget. Long-term costs will be covered by wastewater charges. Over the past five years, around 25 other cities in Baden-Württemberg—including Stuttgart, Mannheim, and Karlsruhe—have used the same CIPP method for similar upgrades.
The municipal council's decision on 26 March will finalise the contract. If approved, repairs will begin shortly and conclude before the summer. The project aims to restore the drainage network's reliability while keeping costs within the planned budget.
