Susner's children risk safety in makeshift pools as heatwave grips Madhya Pradesh

Residents in Susner, Madhya Pradesh, are calling for a proper swimming pool as summer temperatures soar. With local water sources dried up, children have resorted to using a makeshift trough for cooling off. The demand follows concerns over safety in the absence of official facilities. The Kanthal River and other natural water spots in Susner have run dry, leaving children with few options to escape the heat. In response, youngsters in the Adda Gali area now rely on a narrow, trough-like structure as an improvised swimming spot.

Ward Number Five councillor Sneha Parmar took action by arranging for the area to be cleaned and filled with water. However, locals warn that such temporary solutions pose risks, including potential accidents. Municipal Council president Pradeep Soni acknowledged the issue, stating that the council would review proposals for safer swimming facilities. Officials have also indicated plans to explore long-term solutions for the town.

The council’s consideration of safe swimming facilities comes as residents highlight the dangers of current arrangements. If approved, the new infrastructure would provide a secure place for children to cool down during extreme summer heat. For now, the community continues to rely on temporary measures.
