Suzuki Fronx returns after seatbelt recall fixes safety flaw
The Suzuki Fronx small SUV is back on the market after a temporary withdrawal due to a safety concern. The vehicle had been pulled from sale following a one-star safety rating from ANCAP, linked to a faulty rear seatbelt system. Owners were previously advised against carrying rear passengers until repairs were made. The issue began when the Fronx failed a crash test because of a malfunctioning rear seatbelt retractor. As a result, Suzuki New Zealand withdrew the model from sale on NZTA Waka Kotahi's recommendation. The company also warned owners not to transport rear passengers until the problem was fixed.
Suzuki has since launched a recall to replace both rear seatbelt retractors in all affected vehicles. The brand is focusing on private owners first, with plans to finish the repairs by late April. Despite the setback, the Fronx remains a strong seller, ranking second in Suzuki's annual sales by the end of last year. Since its return, the model has seen quick demand, with over 100 units delivered in the first week alone. Suzuki maintains a solid position in the compact SUV market, particularly with its popular Jimny model.
The Fronx is now available again after addressing the seatbelt fault that led to its withdrawal. Suzuki's recall and repair efforts aim to restore confidence in the model's safety. With strong initial sales upon its return, the vehicle continues to be a key part of the brand's lineup.
