Teen climber survives altitude sickness on Big Almaty Peak descent

A group of three climbers encountered difficulties while descending Big Almaty Peak near Almaty’s Kosmostantsiya area. One of the climbers, a 19-year-old man, began suffering from altitude sickness after reaching the summit. Rescue teams responded quickly to assist the group.

The climbers had successfully reached the 3,300-metre summit before the incident occurred. During their descent, the young man reported dizziness and signs of altitude sickness. Despite his condition, the group kept in contact with rescuers and provided their exact location.

Rescue teams from Almaty’s Rescue Service reached the climbers and transported them to the Alma-Arasan eco-post. The man’s symptoms eased after he descended further, and he did not require medical treatment. Once cleared, the group made their own way home without further assistance.

The climbers returned safely after the brief setback. The 19-year-old’s condition stabilised without needing hospital care. Authorities confirmed no further incidents following the rescue operation.
