Thuringia braces for major road closures and tunnel repairs in June 2026
Several road closures and traffic disruptions are planned across Thuringia in June 2026. Drivers should expect delays and follow diversion routes where necessary. The works include both minor road maintenance and major tunnel repairs. From June 8 to June 30, 2026, L 1024 in Brotterode on Inselbergstraße will have a one-lane closure for underground utility work. In Meiningen, B 19 at Dolmarstraße will also operate under one-lane traffic with signals until June 19 for utility connections. L 3247 in Zella-Mehlis, Heinrich-Erhardt-Straße, will face similar restrictions with traffic lights from June 15 to June 26.
A full closure is scheduled for the L 1124 at the Aschenhausen–B 285 intersection on June 14, between 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM, due to a vigil. Short-term one-lane closures will occur on K 92 in Vachdorf on June 18 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM and on L 2619 in Wasungen on June 17 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, both for railway crossing light replacements.
The most significant disruption involves the Highwald Tunnel on A 71 between Oberhof and Suhl/Zella-Mehlis. It will close for maintenance from June 15 to June 24, affecting both directions. Drivers heading toward Sangerhausen must use diversion route U9, while those toward Schweinfurt should take U38. Additionally, L 19 in Wasungen on Schwallunger Straße will have a one-lane closure with traffic lights until June 30 for slope stabilisation work. These works will impact travel across the region throughout June 2026. Authorities advise motorists to plan alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys. All diversions and closures are clearly signposted in advance.
