Toronto opens pools early to beat the summer heatwave

Temperatures are rising as summer approaches in Toronto. To help residents stay cool, the city has begun opening its outdoor pools and splash pads ahead of schedule. Fifteen outdoor pools and 16 wading pools opened this Saturday. The first 15 pools operate from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends.

By June 26, more than 50 outdoor pools will be accessible across the city. During heat warnings, eight designated pools will extend their hours until 11:45 p.m.

City splash pads are already running daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. until September 13. Sixteen wading pools are now open on weekends from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., with all remaining wading pools opening daily until September 6.

Most outdoor pools will close on September 6. However, the initial 15 will stay open an extra day, with modified hours from September 1 to 7. Pools provide a safe way for residents to cool off and lower the risk of heat-related illness during extreme temperatures. The extended hours and early openings aim to support the community through the hottest months.
