Torrevieja improves hospital bus links and plans major parking expansion

Torrevieja's €3.6M transport overhaul cuts congestion with 4,000 new parking spaces

Torrevieja is rolling out major transport and infrastructure upgrades to cut congestion and boost accessibility. The plans include new park-and-ride facilities, faster bus routes, and improved road systems. Officials aim to make the city centre safer and easier to navigate for both drivers and pedestrians. Four new park-and-ride car parks will soon open across Torrevieja, adding nearly 4,000 extra spaces. The largest site, near Parque Antonio Soria, will hold over 2,700 vehicles. The other locations include Avenida de la Estación, Avenida Ramón del Valle Inclán in Torreta, Calle Juan Valera by the CV-905, and Avenida Delfina Viudes. In total, 3,937 spaces will be available, with 55 reserved for drivers with reduced mobility.

The project, costing over €3.6 million, will also upgrade nearby roads. Works will take around five months and cover drainage, LED lighting, road markings, pedestrian zones, and electrical setups. These changes aim to create a more organised and safer parking system, particularly in the busiest parts of the city. A new hospital bus service has launched, offering eight daily trips from Monday to Friday and four on weekends and public holidays. The route from La Mata to Torrevieja Hospital now takes just over 20 minutes—down from nearly two hours before. This faster connection is part of wider efforts to improve public transport links.

The upgrades will bring more structured parking, quicker travel times, and better road conditions. With nearly 4,000 new spaces and improved bus services, the changes are set to ease traffic flow and enhance access to key areas. The full project is expected to complete within five months.
