Berlin/Potsdam (dpa/bb) — The number of attacks on staff in Berlin and Brandenburg's regional rail services has declined slightly in recent months. Fewer Attacks on S-Bahn Staff as Well
In 2024, the rail operator documented a total of 695 incidents, comprising 617 cases of insults, threats, or intimidation and 78 physical assaults. The peak occurred in 2022, with over 1,400 attacks reported.
Additionally, there were 30 assaults against S-Bahn employees in Berlin and Brandenburg last year, compared to 45 in 2024.
Train Conductor Dies After Violent Attack
In February, a 36-year-old conductor in Rhineland-Palatinate was struck repeatedly in the head by a passenger during a ticket inspection, suffering injuries so severe that he later died.
The attack sparked nationwide outrage and reignited debates over safety in public transport. State leaders have since called for the widespread installation of security cameras on trains.
