TSA Launches Gold+ to Revolutionize Airport Security with Private Partners
The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has introduced a new airport security programme called TSA Gold+. This initiative aims to speed up passenger screening while keeping federal security standards in place. It also expands opportunities for private contractors to play a bigger role in airport security operations. TSA Gold+ builds on the existing Screening Partnership Program, which already allows some airports to use private screening companies. Currently, only 20 airports in the US operate under this model. The new programme gives airport operators the option to adopt a public-private screening approach tailored to their needs.
Under TSA Gold+, airports can choose to integrate private contractors for both security personnel and screening technology. The TSA will still oversee all federal security requirements, ensuring compliance remains strict. Unlike traveller programmes such as TSA PreCheck or CLEAR, TSA Gold+ focuses on modernising security infrastructure rather than individual passenger benefits.
The initiative is designed to help airports upgrade their systems more quickly. By allowing greater private-sector involvement, the TSA hopes to reduce wait times at checkpoints without compromising safety. Airports can now voluntarily join TSA Gold+ to improve efficiency and adopt new technology faster. The programme maintains federal oversight while offering flexibility in how security services are delivered. Its success could lead to broader changes in how airport screening is managed across the country.
