Vienna Airport reports strong Q1 2026 growth despite economic challenges

Flughafen Wien Aktiengesellschaft (VIAAY) has released its first-quarter results for 2026, showing growth in both revenue and passenger numbers. The company reported a 6.1% rise in revenue and an 8.2% increase in EBITDA compared to the same period last year. Despite ongoing economic uncertainties, the group remains confident in its financial and passenger forecasts for the rest of the year. The airport operator recorded a 5.3% increase in overall traffic, with particularly strong growth at its Malta and Košice locations. Vienna itself saw a modest rise of 1.6%, partly driven by Air India’s refuelling stops and transit passengers. The company also benefited from higher de-icing revenues and the absence of a winter incentive programme, which had been in place during Q1 2025.

Financially, VIAAY’s net profit climbed by 5.3% in the first quarter. Cost-saving measures and improved efficiency contributed to the positive results. However, rising fuel costs could lead airlines to adjust capacity and push up ticket prices in the coming months. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to create uncertainty for the aviation sector. Despite this, VIAAY has reaffirmed its outlook for passenger numbers and financial performance in 2026.

VIAAY’s first-quarter results highlight steady growth in traffic and profitability. The company’s cost-cutting efforts and operational improvements have helped offset external challenges. With fuel prices and geopolitical tensions still posing risks, the group will monitor developments closely while maintaining its current forecasts.
