Vorkuta's Crumbling Ring Road to Get First Major Overhaul in 50 Years

Authorities in the Republic of Komi have announced a major project to rebuild Vorkuta's ring road. The route has not undergone significant repairs in more than five decades. Officials now plan a full overhaul to modernise the ageing infrastructure.

Deputy Chair of the regional government, Larisa Maksimova, confirmed the initiative. The project forms part of a broader social development strategy for Komi's key economic centres. Federal funding has already been secured to support the reconstruction work.

The ring road's current condition reflects decades of wear without substantial upgrades. While exact details on its length or specific structural issues remain unclear, the allocated funds will address long-standing maintenance needs. The overhaul aims to improve transport links and safety in the region.

The reconstruction marks the first major investment in Vorkuta's ring road since the 1970s. With federal backing, the project will upgrade a critical piece of local infrastructure. Completion is expected to strengthen connectivity in one of Komi's economic hubs.
