Vossloh Wins Major Deal for China's Next-Gen High-Speed Rail Grinding Train
Vossloh has secured a contract to deliver an advanced high-speed grinding train to China. The HSG-2 model, set for completion in summer 2027, will be built in Hamburg and used for preventive rail maintenance across the country's vast network.
China already runs the world's largest high-speed rail system, covering roughly 50,000 kilometers. By 2035, plans are in place to expand this to over 70,000 kilometers. To maintain reliability, the country increasingly depends on preventive maintenance techniques.
High-speed grinding plays a key role in this strategy. Last year alone, around 42,000 kilometers of track underwent such treatment. The technology, supplied by Vossloh, is already in use by twelve regional rail administrations across China. The new HSG-2 train will focus on reducing wear and improving safety. Despite its widespread adoption, none of the twelve regional operators have formally listed Vossloh's grinding technology in their official maintenance plans since 2010. No public records confirm its inclusion in documentation.
The contract reinforces Vossloh's position in China's rail maintenance sector. The HSG-2 train will join existing systems to support the network's growth and operational efficiency. Its delivery in 2027 aligns with China's long-term expansion goals.
