Misconduct on Wiesbaden Buses: ESWE Traffic Launches Respect Campaign

Wiesbaden's Public Transit Launches 'Our Way: Respect' to Curb Rude Behavior

ESWE Verkehr has launched a new campaign to promote respect and civility on Wiesbaden’s public transit. The initiative, called 'Our Way: Respect', addresses ongoing issues of disruptive behaviour on buses and at stops. Managing director Marion Hebding has made it clear that such conduct will not be tolerated. The campaign follows repeated feedback from passengers and drivers about daily incidents. These include loud phone calls, verbal and physical abuse, sexual harassment, and smoking at bus stops. While physical attacks on drivers and inspectors have decreased, other forms of misconduct remain common.

Police already request bus video footage several times a week to investigate potential offences. In response, ESWE Verkehr is rolling out the campaign across its online platforms and vehicles first. Later, it will expand to posters at bus stops and bus advertisements.

The campaign uses positive messages to encourage better behaviour. Slogans like ‘Respect is: keeping your music to yourself’ and ‘Respect is: thinking of others’ aim to remind passengers of basic courtesy. Hebding explained that the goal is to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels safe and comfortable. The initiative seeks to build a culture of mutual respect on public transport. It also aims to improve safety for all passengers and staff. The company hopes the campaign will reduce incidents and foster a more considerate travel experience.
