Wolfsburg's food workers now take mandatory health training online
Wolfsburg has launched a digital health instruction course for workers in food and catering. The mandatory training follows Section 43 of Germany's Infection Protection Act. Participants can now complete it online instead of in person.
The course is aimed at those handling food, working in restaurant kitchens, or involved in communal catering. It teaches how to spot early signs of infectious diseases to stop their spread and avoid food contamination. The training also explains when health issues might prevent someone from carrying out certain tasks.
To access the instruction, users need a BundID account and can find it on rathausonline.wolfsburg.de under 'Services' and 'Infection Protection'. The cost is €26, payable by credit card or PayPal. After finishing, a certificate is issued, which must be no older than three months when starting work. No figures have been released comparing the uptake of digital courses to the previous in-person versions.
The digital format makes the mandatory training more accessible for food and catering staff. A valid certificate remains essential before beginning work in these areas. The city has not provided data on how the shift to online courses has affected participation rates.
