Yakutsk imposes seasonal heavy vehicle bans to protect crumbling roads

Yakutsk's urban district will introduce temporary traffic restrictions for heavy vehicles in the coming months. The measures aim to protect road surfaces during periods of extreme weather. Two separate sets of rules will apply at different times this year. The first restrictions will run from 2 May to 31 May 2026. These will limit heavy vehicle traffic due to weakened road structures caused by excess moisture. Adverse weather conditions during this period reduce the load-bearing capacity of the asphalt, making roads more vulnerable to damage.

A second set of restrictions will follow from **1 June to 31 August 2026**. These will target oversized vehicles exceeding legal weight limits. The rules will activate if daytime temperatures rise above **32°C**, as extreme heat further weakens asphalt-concrete surfaces. Both measures focus on preserving road integrity by reducing the permissible gross vehicle weight of lorries and other heavy transport.

The restrictions will remain in place for defined periods to prevent long-term damage to Yakutsk's roads. Heavy vehicles will face weight limits during May due to moisture and from June to August if high temperatures persist. Authorities have not yet released further details on enforcement or exemptions.
