Bus fares in Yakutsk will rise again in 2026, marking the third increase in four years. Mayor Yevgeny Grigoryev confirmed the change, pointing to higher fuel costs and a tough economic climate. The city is also set to receive 35 new buses to improve public transport services.
Cash fares for buses in Yakutsk have steadily climbed from 40 rubles in 2023 to 45 rubles in 2024. The current rate of 52 rubles will now jump to 58 rubles on January 1, 2026. Officials cite a 17% rise in fuel prices over the past year as a major factor behind the increase.
The Central Bank’s high key rate has also added pressure, making transport more expensive to operate. Despite the fare hike, no updates have been given on changes to card payments or monthly travel passes. To modernise services, Yakutsk will take delivery of 35 new Volgabus vehicles. These low-floor buses are designed to be more accessible, particularly for passengers with strollers or mobility challenges.
The fare adjustment will take effect at the start of 2026, bringing the cash price to 58 rubles. The city’s investment in new buses aims to offset some of the impact on passengers. However, no further details on alternative payment methods have been released.
