Jan Hölderle, a 25-year-old signal operator from Metzingen, has won the national title of 'Favorite Dispatcher' in a competition organised by the Freight Rail Association. The award highlights his technical skill, calm decision-making, and teamwork in rail traffic control. Twelve signal boxes across Germany and Switzerland were recognised in this year's event. The competition, titled Find Your Favorite Dispatcher 2025/26, celebrated outstanding work in rail operations. Hölderle received multiple nominations for his expertise and professionalism. His ability to manage complex situations with composure set him apart from other candidates.
Second place went to Michael Keßler from Basel's electronic signal box. Judges praised his deep technical knowledge and precision in handling rail traffic. Katja Frank, based in Ansbach, secured third place for her dedication and hands-on approach in daily operations. Berk Kutluğ, working at Frankfurt (Main) Central Station, earned the Audience Favorite award. The ceremony drew industry leaders and political figures, including Philipp Nagl, CEO of DB InfraGO. Nagl emphasised the vital role of signal operators in keeping trains running safely and on time. Neele Wesseln, managing director of the Freight Rail Association, stressed how these professionals maintain network stability. The initiative seeks to raise public awareness of their often-overlooked contributions.
The awards recognised signal operators in cities such as Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, and Leipzig, alongside Metzingen, Basel, Ansbach, and Frankfurt. Hölderle's win highlights the skill and responsibility required in rail traffic control. The competition will continue to showcase the importance of these roles in future editions.
