Zofingen Regio revamps cycling strategy to link key destinations by 2042

The Zofingen Regio regional planning association is updating its cycling strategy to better connect key destinations. The revised plan focuses on improving bike access to schools, train stations, and leisure sites. However, local routes and recreational cycling paths will not be included in this update.

The project follows Switzerland's new federal law on cycling infrastructure, which sets deadlines for cantons and municipalities. By 2027, all network plans must be finalised, with full implementation required by 2042. The Zofingen Regio association, covering seven municipalities including Zofingen, has hired Kontextplan AG to lead the revision.

The updated strategy will prioritise routes linking major regional hubs. While the plan aims to boost accessibility, it will not address smaller local connections or recreational cycling trails. The association has not yet outlined specific infrastructure changes for the municipalities involved.

The revised cycling strategy must align with federal timelines and regional needs. Once completed, it will guide future bike network developments across the seven municipalities. Implementation will depend on further planning and funding decisions.
