Frost Damage - A24 Fully Closed for Repairs - A24 motorway shuts briefly for urgent frost damage repairs on Wednesday

A key section of the A24 motorway in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will shut down briefly on Wednesday, March 14. The closure, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, affects a 17-kilometre stretch between the Hagenow and Wöbbelin exits due to urgent frost-related repairs on the bridge.

The motorway has already faced repeated disruptions this year. Two major construction projects in the same area have required full closures while crews demolish and replace two ageing bridges. Since early January, traffic has been squeezed into a single lane in each direction, adding pressure to the road surface.

During the upcoming closure, workers will address the latest frost damage and repaint faded lane markings on the bridge. A signed detour will guide drivers around the affected section. The entire bridge replacement project, which began with foundation work and structural preparations, is now set to finish by the end of June.

The full reconstruction of both bridges is part of a long-term project management plan. The total project, expected to take 4-5 years, should wrap up around 2027-2028.

The temporary closure aims to resolve immediate safety concerns from frost damage on the bridge. Once completed, the repairs will ease some of the ongoing traffic restrictions in the area. Further updates on the project's progress would come from Autobahn GmbH, the responsible highway authority.
