AP-7 motorway near Marbella faces six weeks of nighttime roadworks for noise reduction

Major roadworks will begin soon on the AP-7 motorway near Marbella as part of a €13.1 million noise-reduction project. The scheme, funded by Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, aims to install over 6.6 kilometres of sound-proofing screens. Drivers are being warned of disruptions over the next six weeks. The project will see barriers built along a stretch of the AP-7, covering a total area of 26,300 square metres. These screens will range in height from 2.5 to 4.5 metres, targeting noise pollution in the region.

Lane closures are expected at night between 10pm and 6am in the Malaga-bound direction. The work will also affect key junctions, including exit 1044 for Marbella and Avenida del Trapiche, as well as junction 1043 linking to the A-355, Ojen, and La Cañada shopping park. Drivers should stay alert near kilometre 1042, where the AP-7 merges with the A-7 towards Fuengirola and Malaga, as lane layouts will change temporarily.

Many motorists already avoid the AP-7 in favour of the parallel A-7, which often faces heavy traffic between Fuengirola and San Pedro de Alcántara. Recent repairs fixed potholes on parts of the A-7 after winter storms, but demands persist for broader improvements on state-run roads. The works form part of Spain’s national Noise Action Plan and will run for six weeks. Authorities advise drivers to check real-time traffic updates before setting off. Delays are likely, and alternative routes may be needed during peak disruption periods.
