B317's Grendel Curve reopens after successful rockfall stabilisation

The Grendel Curve on the B317 has been made safe after months of stabilisation work. The Regional Council confirmed that the risk of rockfalls in the area has now been eliminated. Geological surveys first identified unstable rock sections above the highway. This led to the start of the project in February 2026, with an original timeline of five months. Crews cleared vegetation and installed protective netting along with a rockfall barrier.

The work finished earlier than planned. As a result, all traffic restrictions between Hausen im Wiesental and Zell im Wiesental will be removed on Saturday. The B317, a key route through the Wiesental valley, will then be fully open again. The highway is now free from the previous rockfall danger. Drivers can use the B317 without restrictions from Saturday onwards. The stabilisation measures ensure the road remains safe for regular use.
