Berlin's new S15 line launches next month with faster city commutes

Berlin’s public transport network is set to expand with the launch of the new S15 line. The route will connect Gesundbrunnen station to Hauptbahnhof as a shuttle service, offering faster journeys for thousands of daily commuters. All technical checks and approvals have now been finalised ahead of its opening next month. The S15 line will begin operation on June 15, running every 10 minutes. Passengers travelling from the Nordring at Gesundbrunnen to Hauptbahnhof can expect a time saving of around 10 minutes. The line will also include a stop at Wedding S-Bahn station, improving access in the area.

Once open, the S15 is projected to carry roughly 40,000 passengers each day. This addition forms the first completed phase of the larger S21 project, which aims to create a north-to-south S-Bahn connection across the city. Future plans include extending the route to Potsdamer Platz and a new station at Gleisdreieck in Kreuzberg. Planning permission for the second phase of the S21 project is anticipated this autumn. Authorities have confirmed that all necessary inspections and approvals for the S15 line are now in place.

The launch of the S15 line will reduce travel times and increase capacity on Berlin’s S-Bahn network. With its opening scheduled for mid-June, the route will serve as a key link between Gesundbrunnen and Hauptbahnhof. Further expansions under the S21 project are expected to follow in the coming years.
