Emergency bypass road nears completion after Sivakovka bridge collapse

A bridge collapse near Sivakovka has forced authorities to fast-track a temporary bypass road. The incident, caused by an oversized truck, left residents relying on a ferry while repairs take place. Regional officials have now stepped in to speed up the work. The original bridge over the canal gave way under the weight of an oversized lorry. In response, the regional transport minister, Alexei Ignatenko, personally launched the construction of a bypass route to Sivakovka.

The project has moved quickly, with seven large culverts installed and the embankment fully formed. Around 20 pieces of heavy machinery—including excavators, dump trucks, and large-diameter culverts—have been working on site. Thirteen of these units are focused solely on the bypass. Residents have been using a ferry to cross the canal while the detour remains unfinished. Now, with the temporary road 90% complete, officials have announced it will open by evening. The new route will lead directly to the canal’s shoreline, restoring access for the community. A criminal case has also been opened to investigate the bridge collapse.

The bypass road is set to ease travel for Sivakovka residents after weeks of ferry reliance. Authorities have confirmed the detour will be operational by tonight. Meanwhile, the investigation into the bridge failure continues.
