FlixBus revives Poland's controversial 666 bus route to Hel after years of religious backlash

FlixBus revives 'devilish' 666 route from Krakow to Hel this summer

A bus route numbered 666 is returning this summer, linking Krakow to the coastal town of Hel. The service, operated by FlixBus, has already drawn global attention for its unusual number and destination. Tickets for the journey, which starts in late June, are priced from around 89 zloty. The 666 bus will depart Krakow daily at 6am and arrive in Hel around 7pm. The trip takes roughly 13 hours, passing through Warsaw along the way. FlixBus deliberately chose the number for its marketing appeal, hoping to stand out and attract passengers.

Religious groups have strongly opposed the decision. In the past, protests led to the number being abandoned. This time, however, the company has pushed ahead, sparking renewed debate.

Global media outlets have picked up the story, with many drawing comparisons to AC/DC’s Highway to Hell. The unusual combination of the route number and its final destination—Hel—has fuelled curiosity among travellers. The relaunched service is set to begin in late June. With its eye-catching branding and affordable fares, FlixBus expects the 666 route to draw both tourists and media interest. Church leaders, however, remain firmly against the use of the controversial number.
