A company has secured a major contract to upgrade 12 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U5000 trucks for fire brigades in France. The vehicles will receive a full performance overhaul to boost their power and speed before entering service.
The project focuses on optimising the trucks' existing 4.8-litre Euro 5 engines. Engineers will fine-tune them for greater raw power and faster acceleration. Each vehicle will undergo rigorous dyno testing to measure and refine input and output performance.
After the workshop upgrades, the fire trucks will be put through road tests. These trials will demonstrate their improved capabilities in real-world conditions. The enhanced models are expected to deliver stronger performance for emergency response teams.
The 12 upgraded Unimog U5000 trucks will soon join fire departments across France. Their increased power and acceleration aim to improve operational efficiency. The project highlights ongoing efforts to modernise emergency vehicle fleets.
