Mexico's 2026 car sales surge as buyers embrace flexible financing
Mexico’s automotive market is seeing strong growth in 2026, with new car sales rising by over 5% in the first five months. Buyers are taking advantage of competitive pricing and flexible financing, while industry experts predict a record-breaking year ahead. The Mexican Association of Automobile Dealers (AMDA) has forecast that new car sales will reach 1,677,337 units by the end of 2026. This would mark a 3% increase compared to 2025, driven by low prices and fierce competition among dealers.
Credit remains widely available, encouraging more buyers to choose longer loan terms. Many are now opting for 60- and 72-month financing plans to better match their budgets with vehicle discounts. While domestic sales are thriving, production has faced challenges. Auto manufacturing in Mexico dropped by 3.7% in May, with 342,926 units produced. However, vehicle exports still grew by 1.7% in the same month, reaching 306,288 units shipped abroad.
The trend towards extended loan terms reflects consumers’ efforts to balance affordability with attractive discounts. With sales expected to hit new highs, Mexico’s automotive sector remains a key player in the regional market. Industry growth continues despite fluctuations in production and export figures.
