Mumbai Metro's Line-1 hits 125 crore passengers in 12 years of service

Mumbai Metro’s Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Line-1 has reached a major milestone, carrying over 125 crore passengers since its launch in 2014. The line, operated by Mumbai Metro One Pvt. Ltd. (MMOPL), recently celebrated 12 years of service with new tech upgrades and expanded travel options for commuters. Line-1 began operations in June 2014 and has since become a vital transport link in Mumbai. It connects residential areas, business centres, and key transit points across the city. Over the years, the metro has completed more than 15 lakh trips while maintaining a near-perfect punctuality rate of 99.99%.

The system has also achieved a flawless safety record, with zero fatalities reported since its inception. Its highest single-day ridership reached 5.79 lakh passengers, demonstrating its growing importance in Mumbai’s public transport network. To mark its 12th Foundation Day in June 2022, MMOPL introduced co-branded RuPay 'On-The-Go' cards. These cards, powered by the National Common Mobility Card platform, enable seamless travel across Line-1, Lines 2A, 7, and 3, as well as BEST buses and the upcoming Monorail network. The company has also rolled out tech-driven upgrades to improve passenger experience. Looking ahead, MMOPL plans to focus on operational efficiency, customer-centric innovations, and sustainable mobility solutions as Mumbai’s metro network continues to expand.

Line-1’s success reflects its role as a reliable urban transport solution in Mumbai. With over 125 crore commuters served and ongoing upgrades, the metro remains a cornerstone of the city’s growing public transport infrastructure. The introduction of interoperable travel cards further strengthens its integration with other transit systems.
