Neusser Straße in Willich to close for major renovation and widening
In the next phase of construction, the pedestrian and cycle path along Neusser Straße between Willich and Willich-Hardt will be renovated and widened over a stretch of approximately two kilometers. The work is expected to take around two months.
The construction will require a full closure of the pedestrian and cycle path. Additionally, the K 19 roadway will also be closed to vehicular traffic, as the narrow width of the street does not allow for traffic alongside the construction site.
The only exceptions will be for the Hardt line citizen's bus and school buses, which will still be permitted to use Neusser Straße throughout the construction period. A barrier system will be installed at the start of the construction zone on the K 19 to manage access.
For residents and visitors to the Hardt district, access by car will only be possible from the east via the L 154 (Kaarster Straße/Osterather Straße) during the construction period. From the direction of Willich, the K 19 on Neusser Straße will remain open as far as the junction with "An der Schettruh."
Pedestrians and cyclists will be directed along a marked detour route between Willich and Willich-Hardt. The detour runs from Willich via Ritterstraße and paved field paths to Hursterhöfe, continuing from there to the K 19 in Hardt.
For through traffic on the K 19, a large-scale diversion will be in place for the entire duration of the construction. The route will follow the L 26 (Düsseldorfer Straße/Streithöfe/Willicher Straße) in Willich, continuing onto the L 154 (Westring/Kaarster Straße) toward Willich-Hardt. The diversion in the opposite direction will follow the same route in reverse.
Following this phase, the road surface in Willich-Mitte on Martin-Rieffert-Straße and Peterstraße will also be renewed. These works are expected to take about a month and will likewise require full road closures. Further details will be provided in a separate announcement closer to the time.
The construction company AMT Alex Maas Tiefbauunternehmung, based in Moers, will carry out the work. The total cost of the project amounts to approximately €2.2 million, with 80 percent of the funding for the pedestrian and cycle path expansion provided by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
