New Solontsy traffic lights ease rush-hour congestion with smart timing
A new traffic light system near the Solontsy area was installed on 5 May. The timings have since been adjusted to manage traffic flow more efficiently, particularly during peak hours in the morning and evening. Initially, the traffic light operated on a fixed cycle from 6:30 AM to 8:45 AM on weekdays, giving 46 seconds of green followed by 46 seconds of red. Vehicles heading from Severnoye Highway toward the METRO hypermarket and Solontsy village faced the longest waits. Meanwhile, traffic leaving Solontsy toward Krasnoyarsk experienced minimal delays.
From 6:30 AM to 7:50 AM, the cycle was later changed to 39 seconds green and 53 seconds red. Between 7:50 AM and 10:00 AM, the light shifted to an equal 41-second split for both green and red phases. During the day, from 10:00 AM to 4:45 PM, the light flashes yellow to keep traffic moving smoothly. In the evening, between 4:45 PM and 6:45 PM, the system switches to a 45-second green and 37-second red cycle. The adjustments reflect heavier morning and evening traffic entering the city from Severnoye Highway compared to the outflow from Solontsy.
The updated timings aim to reduce congestion at key times. Drivers travelling toward the METRO hypermarket and Solontsy village now face shorter waits during peak periods. The changes follow observations of traffic patterns since the light’s installation in early May.
