Nizhny Novgorod's Eastern Bypass clears design hurdle for major expansion

Nizhny Novgorod’s Eastern Bypass project has reached a key milestone with the approval of its design plan. This green light now allows engineering and construction work to begin on a major new section northeast of Nikulskoye village in the Kstovo District. The approved plan covers a stretch of the Eastern Bypass, including the reconstruction of the Grebnoi Canal embankment. A new road will be built, featuring a two-level interchange and an overpass to improve traffic flow.

The project also includes measures to reduce disruption for nearby residents. Noise barriers will be installed along the route, and stormwater treatment facilities will manage runoff near residential areas. Once complete, the Eastern Bypass will operate as a toll road, providing a new transport link for the region.

With the design now finalised, construction can move forward on this section of the bypass. The road’s toll system, noise reduction measures, and upgraded infrastructure will shape its operation once opened to traffic.
