Orlando Airport hikes car rental fees to fund $2.2B parking overhaul
Orlando International Airport has raised its Customer Facility Charge (CFC) for car rentals from $6 to $9 per day. The increase was approved by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority and adds to the already high cost of renting a vehicle at the airport. It now ties with Los Angeles International Airport as the most expensive place to rent a car in the US. The airport is planning a major change to address congestion and parking shortages. A new Consolidated Rental Car Facility (ConRAC) is set to be built, with completion expected by 2032 if funding is secured. The project will cost $2.2 billion, with a large portion of the expense covered by fees charged to renters.
Once finished, the ConRAC should free up around 5,000 parking spaces in existing garages. Renters will still face multiple fees, including concession recovery and energy recovery charges. A week-long SUV rental from the airport can already include over $150 in fees alone. The CFC increase is now in effect, and the ConRAC project remains in the planning stages. Renters will continue to pay additional fees to support the new facility. These changes reflect the airport’s status as the world’s largest car rental market.
