Pilatus Railways sees record 12% passenger growth in 2025 with 1.2M travelers

Pilatus Railways AG has reported a strong year in 2025, with passenger numbers rising by 12% compared to 2024. The company, known for operating the world's steepest cogwheel railway, saw over 1.2 million travellers across its services. Good weather, a longer snow season, and new attractions helped drive the increase. Total passenger figures reached 1.2 million in 2025, up from the previous year. The cogwheel railway alone carried 464,165 people, while all transport services combined moved 840,870 visitors. Despite a wet summer, July and August still saw steady traffic.

Favourable conditions in June and a mix of Swiss and international guests boosted numbers further. The company also benefited from a new experience restaurant at the mountain station and targeted marketing campaigns. Revenue climbed to 46.9 million Swiss francs, with earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) hitting 18.5 million. Beyond transport, Pilatus Railways runs cable cars, hotels, and dining venues. Staffing levels adjust seasonally, with around 260 employees during peak times and 150 in quieter months.

The 2025 results highlight Pilatus Railways' growth, supported by extended winter operations and new visitor offerings. With higher passenger counts and increased revenue, the company has strengthened its position as a key Swiss tourist destination.
