Braunschweig. During a large-scale hazardous materials inspection on the A2 motorway, police officers uncovered numerous violations. According to a statement released by authorities on Thursday, a total of 39 transport units were checked at the Zweidorfer Holz Süd rest area on Tuesday, with 26 found to be in breach of regulations.

The operation was part of the statewide "Sicher.mobil.leben" (Safe.Mobile.Life) action day, involving not only the Autobahnpolizei (motorway police) but also officers from multiple police directorates, the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility, and law enforcement from Hesse and Saxony-Anhalt.
Two heavy transports, each weighing over 50 tons, were of particular concern, as they lacked any required permits. Despite police explicitly prohibiting them from continuing, the drivers—acting on orders from their supervisor—proceeded toward Bavaria.
Police in Braunschweig then alerted the Burgau police station, leading traffic officers in Günzburg to locate and stop both vehicles at a construction site.
In total, officers documented 14 violations of hazardous materials regulations, 15 breaches of social legislation (such as drivers' hours), 13 cases of inadequate load securing, and 12 technical defects. The two heavy transports alone incurred security deposits exceeding €5,000.
Due to serious technical deficiencies, one vehicle's license plates were confiscated, and it was ordered to undergo a mandatory technical inspection.
